Centre Unveils ₹2,817 Crore Digital Agriculture Mission


The Centre has approved a ₹2,817 crore Digital Agriculture Mission, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Monday. "Today, the Cabinet has taken seven key decisions aimed at enhancing the lives of farmers and boosting their income," Vaishnaw stated. "The first is the Digital Agriculture Mission, modeled on the framework of Digital Public Infrastructure for agriculture. Several successful pilot projects have been initiated, and based on that success, we are now launching the Digital Agriculture Mission with a total investment of ₹2,817 crore," the minister explained during a briefing.

Other significant announcements followed, including a ₹3,979 crore initiative focused on food and nutritional security. "This program is centered on preparing our farmers for 2047 by incorporating climate-resilient crop sciences and ensuring food and nutritional security, with six core pillars," Vaishnaw elaborated, as reported by PTI.

The Cabinet also greenlit a ₹860 crore scheme dedicated to the sustainable development of horticulture. Additionally, other decisions include a ₹1,202 crore investment in strengthening Krishi Vigyan Kendras and a ₹1,115 crore allocation for Natural Resource Management.

Furthermore, the government approved a ₹1,702 crore scheme aimed at promoting sustainable livestock health and production.
